but also
so there’s funny stuff in both for the cynics amongst us (the wave feeling good, the wet-eyed soap opera actresses), but I have a renewed appreciation for Mr Rogers, ever since Candyland challenged me to find something outside of old habits that makes me remember and makes me feel that same sense of worthiness. He had suggested jogging, and perhaps that will make sense to me someday, but I’ll take these pills for now.
it’s also a cats & ghosts thing — love is not a scarcity economy. Rogers’ theory of every child in every neighborhood deserving to hear simple reminders that they are loved, that they are worthy, that someone believes in them and is proud of them — the message could be communicated every single day to every single child (and adult) until the big global heart attack and there would still be love and kindness left over for the cockroaches. you can give and give and you will get back. I think the Mr Rogers crew would be cheerleaders for the Free Store if they knew about it.
On my intake call a week ago, the person from the sliding scale place had to ask me if i was currently or had previously been in some sort of therapy, and I told them about candiland and also said “and a few years watching Mr Rogers’ Neighborhood” and the person laughed and said “me too.”

Well you have grown up to be a funny, smart and creative person so mr rogers did a good job
